The story of the famous and fragile singer Toska, the passionate painter Cavaradossi and the sadistic police chief Scarpi, with the captivating melodies of Giacomo Puccini, who have become immortal. When Giacomo Puccini first saw Victorien Sardou's play La Tosca, starring the world-famous French actress Sarah Bernhardt, in 1889, he immediately recognized a theme suitable for opera and asked his publisher, Ricordi , to obtain a draft law from the author. However, another 10 years passed before the score was completed and Tosca could be performed in Rome on January 14, 1900. Tosca is a story of love, jealousy and passion, but also torture and murder. The critics of the time unanimously blamed this criminal political theme of abuse of power, which took place in Rome during the Napoleonic Wars in 1800, excessive naturalism, the pursuit of sensation and music that is painted too rough colors. However, after being staged at La Scale in Milan, just two months after its premiere in Rome, Tosca embarked on her triumphant journey through the scenes of world opera houses and never disappeared from them. To this day, we are attracted by the story of the famous and fragile singer Toska, the passionate painter Cavaradossi and the sadistic police chief Scarpi, but also the captivating melodies of Giacomo Puccini, who have become immortal. The director of the new production is Anton Korenči, the costumes were prepared by Boris Hanečka and the stage design by the artist Lucia Tallová. The main element of the scene is a monumental image of a dramatic black sky from the "Clouds" series, which Lucia Tallová created especially for the opera Tosca and the State Theater in Košice.
