Isabel Díaz Morlánek La Canción para voz y piano en el País Vasco, entre 1870 y 1939 (2013) liburuan azaltzen duenez, ahotserako eta pianorako abesti asko konposatu ziren Euskadin urte haietan. Aretoko kantuak paper oso heterogeneoa izan zuen garai hartan, eta, gainera, jatorrizko sorkuntzaren eta obrak zabaltzeko beharraren artean ibili zen. Euskal burgesiaren errepertorioa askotarikoa zen: gaztelaniazko eta frantsesezko kantu kultuak, modaren arabera aldatzen ziren dantza-erritmoak, eta, askotan, doinu folklorikoetan oinarritutako kantuak, herriaren eta herri-klaseen kontzeptuaren ikuspegi erromantiko eta nostalgiko batetik sortuak. Según explica Isabel Díaz Morlán en su libro La Canción para voz y piano en el País Vasco, entre 1870 y 1939 (2013), se consumieron en Euskadi en esos años un gran número de canciones para voz y piano de muy variada factura. El papel que cumplió la canción de salón en ese periodo no solo fue muy heterogéneo, sino que fluctuó entre la creación original y la necesidad de divulgación de las obras. El repertorio de aquella burguesía vasca, navegaba entre canciones cultas en castellano y francés, ritmos de danzas que cambiaban según la moda, y, con mucha frecuencia, canciones basadas en melodías folclóricas, que nacían de una visión romántica y nostálgica del concepto de pueblo y de las clases populares. Por otro lado, hemos de tener en cuenta que, desde las últimas décadas del siglo XIX, diversas regiones de Europa promovieron la recuperación de sus tradiciones folclóricas musicales, especialmente cancioneros que sirvieron durante mucho tiempo como fuente inagotable para la composición de canciones artísticas.

En este género de la canción hay una clara tendencia a obviar el nombre del escritor o escritora, buscando dar predominio a la música sobre la letra. Pero lo cierto es, que si pensamos en el compositor de canciones como «lector» de un poema, su música es una interpretación de dicho poema, por lo que el texto es un elemento fundamental para entender la canción. Aita Donostia, Jesús Guridi, Emma Chacón y Anita Idiartborde comparten programa. De este modo, pretendemos que ellas ocupen el lugar que se les negó.

As Isabel Díaz Morlán explains in her book La Canción para voz y piano en el País Vasco, entre 1870 y 1939 (Songs for voice and piano in the Basque Country between 1870 and 1939) (2013), the Basque Country consumed a large number and wide variety of songs for voice and piano around this time. The role played by salon music in this period was not only broad but fluctuated between original creations and the need to circulate these works. The repertoire of the Basque bourgeoisie featured classic songs in Spanish and French, dances that changed according to the fashion, and very frequently, songs based on folk tunes that sprang from a romantic and nostalgic vision of the concept of the people and popular classes. On the other hand, towards the end of the 19th century, many regions of Europe actively sought to recover their folk music traditions, particularly songs that were used for a long time as an inexhaustible resource to compose artistic songs.

Although it is true that if we think about the composer of songs as the ‘reader’ of a poem, its music is an interpretation of this poem, so that text is a fundamental element to understand the song.
