„Nach einer überstandenen heftigen Grippe war ich sehr berührt von Beethovens
Streichquartett. Die Musik traf genau das, was ich empfand: große Ruhe, Dankbarkeit und das tröstliche Gefühl ‚jetzt ist alles gut‘“, erzählt Philharmoniker-Bratschistin Stefanie Frieß.
Mit „innigster Empfindung“ möchte Beethoven den „Heiligen Dankgesang eines Genesenen“ aus einem seiner späten Streichquartette vorgetragen wissen – und so möge er dieses Konzert eröffnen. Beethoven auch wird mit seiner zweiten Symphonie das Schlusswort dieses Programms setzen: mit sanften Kantilenen und empfindsamen Wendungen ebenso wie unbändigem Drängen und pulsierendem Streben gen Zukunft darf dieses Werk einmal mehr das symphonische Genie dieses Ausnahmekünstlers freisetzen. Die 200-jährige Modernität der Beethoven’schen Tonsprache trifft in diesem Konzert auf britische Musik unserer Gegenwart: George Benjamins „Sudden Time“ aus dem Jahr 1993, dessen Ausgangspunkt das Naturerlebnis eines Donnerschlags zwischen Traum und Realität war. Und eine Uraufführung der schottischen Komponistin Helen Grime mit dem Titel „River“, die im Auftrag des Philharmonischen Staatsorchesters entsteht.

"After having overcome a severe flu, I was very touched by Beethoven's String Quartet. The music hit exactly what I was feeling: great peace, gratitude and the comforting feeling 'now everything is good,'" says Philharmonic violist Stefanie Frieß.
Beethoven would like to hear the "holy song of thanksgiving of a convalescent" from one of his late string quartets performed with "the most heartfelt feeling" - and that is how he would like this concert to open. Beethoven will also conclude this program with his Second Symphony: with gentle cantilenas and sensitive turns as well as irrepressible urges and pulsating striving towards the future, this work may once again unleash the symphonic genius of this exceptional artist. In this concert, the 200-year-old modernity of Beethoven's tonal language meets British music of our present: George Benjamin's "Sudden Time" from 1993, whose starting point was the natural experience of a thunderclap between dream and reality. And a world premiere by the Scottish composer Helen Grime entitled "River", commissioned by the Philharmonic State Orchestra.
