여느 해와 마찬가지로 올해 마지막 정기공연은 베토벤 교향곡 9번 ‘합창’으로 예정되어 있다. 한국 주요 오케스트라들이 대부분 공유하는 연말 단골 레퍼토리지만 지난 해 코로나 대유행으로 인해 대부분의 공연이 취소되었고, 서울시향만이 소편성으로 편곡된 작품을 무관중 랜선 공연을 이어나갔다. 비극적 오프닝으로 시작하여 기쁨에 벅찬 ‘환희의 송가’로 마무리되는 이 교향곡의 서사가 그대로 실현되는, 암울한 전염병 시대를 무사히 극복한 연말을 부디 기원해본다.
