Carl Maria von Weber: In preparation for the presentation of The Magical Hunter, the male choir of the Szeged National Theater held an impromptu rehearsal, supplemented by students majoring in private singing at the SZTE BBMK. Head of faculty: Gergely Flórián.

A test shot is organized to win each forest lodge and the hand of the chief forester's daughter. Max feels that even though he and Agatha love each other, if he is not lucky, he will have to give up on her. Then his counterpart, Gáspár, who is in cahoots with the dark powers, approaches him. You are also applying for Agata's hand and the job. He tells Max that he can make balls of extraordinary power. He always throws seven balls, six of which go to the target. The seventh, however, belongs to Satan…

Weber chose the story of The Magical Hunter from Apel and Laun's Book of Ghosts , which had a tragic ending due to the theme of the book. This was deleted in agreement with the librettist and a serene finale was written in its place. Good triumphs over evil, Agatha is not shot by her lover, her parents do not die of grief, and the unfortunate hunter does not go mad.

Minden erdészállás elnyeréséért és a főerdész lányának kezéért próbalövést rendeznek. Max úgy érzi, hiába szeretik egymást Agátával, ha nem lesz szerencséje, le kell mondania a lányról. Ekkor ellenlábasa, a sötét hatalmakkal cimboráló Gáspár lép hozzá. Maga is pályázik Agáta kezére és az állásra. Elmeséli Maxnak, hogy különös hatalmú golyókat tud készíteni. Hét golyót önt mindig, amiből hat odamegy, amire céloz. A hetedik azonban a Sátáné…

Weber Apel és Laun Kísértetkönyvéből választotta ki A bűvös vadász történetét, aminek a kötet tematikájából adódóan tragikus végkifejlete volt. Ezt a librettistával egyetértésben törölték és egy derűs finálét írtak a helyére. A jó győzedelmeskedik a gonosz felett, Agátát nem lövi le a kedvese, szülei nem halnak bele a bánatba, és a szerencsétlen vadász nem tébolyodik meg.
