Large-scale original opera A Village Teacher is not only a celebrating gift for the 2nd anniversary of NCPA inauguration, but also the first-ever realistic-theme original opera launched by NCPA. This opera is co-produced by NCPA and China National Opera House. Numerous outstanding domestic artists are invited to produce and participate in the performance.
A Village Teacher tells about a touching story that female teacher Yang Caihong dedicates her life to education undertaking in poverty-stricken mountainous region. Solid and pure Yang Caihong, kind and honest Zhou Luoping and cowardly and realistic Li Wenguang vividly stand on the stage and show their real sorrow and happiness to the audiences. From the perspective of protagonists' ups and downs, this opera gets insight into people's common emotional conflicts and life confusions, and makes more in-depth study on the ideal and reality, love and betrayal, sacrifice and dedication, as well as other everlasting life themes. Poetic expression, warm music and beautiful idyllic scene make this work touching, and arouse strong innermost resonance from the audiences.
NCPA Chorus was established on December 8, 2009, whose members are carefully selected from music schools around China. Now the Chorus has Wu Lingfen as the conductor, with many artists well-known in China and abroad giving instructions. Affiliated to NCPA, the highest palace of performing arts in China, the Chorus adheres to NCPA's guiding principles of 'for the people, for the arts, and for the world'. The Chorus mainly stages operas and concerts, and also takes part in kinds of cultural communication events.
Ever since its debut at NCPA Opera Festival 2011, the Chorus has made its high-acclaimed appearances in NCPA's productions of operas including Xi Shi, Carmen, La Traviata, L'elisir d'Amore, Turandot, A Village Teacher, Tosca, Die Fledermaus and The Chinese Orphan. As NCPA's resident group, NCPA Chorus toured Seoul Arts Center (South Korea) in January 2011, for NCPA's version of Turandot, and received wide acclaim.

The Chorus has taken part in the performances of the music and dance epic Road to Revive, as well as concerts to name just a few, An die Muzik – NCPA Chorus Debut Concert, Roam about the Classics Concert Series, My Motherland – NCPA Chorus Army Day Concert, Aria for Love Concert, Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 and Mahler's Symphony No. 2. Repertoires of the Chorus combine world-class classic opera excerpts and famous chamber choral works. High-standard performances of NCPA Chorus trigger impassioned echoes.

Since its establishment, the Chorus has collaborated with renowned artists including directors Francesca Zambello and Gian-Carlo del Monaco; conductors Lorin Maazel, Lu Jia and Li Xincao; Vocalists Inva Mula, Juan Pons, Brandon Jovanovich, Dai Yuqiang, Warren Mok, Zhang Yalun, Zhang Liping, Sun Xiuwei and Liang Ning, among others. It performs over 100 sessions throughout the year, and plays an active role in promoting the further development of NCPA.

A Village Teacher has been successfully staged in three rounds as yet, which is not only widely acclaimed in music circle, but also arouses strong emotional resonance from general audience. In each performance, the deeply-moved audiences are often full of tears. Xu Xiaozhong, a famous dramatist, even comments that 'fervent emotion and conflict are expressed in the quiet countryside, which is full of ardent and unsophisticated emotions on the upsurge'.
