De Roemeense operaster Angela Gheorghiu is een van de grote sopranen van deze tijd. In 1992 maakte ze haar internationaal debuut in het Royal Opera House. Daarna ging het met haar carrière steil omhoog: in London zong ze datzelfde jaar nog Mimi (La bohème) en aan de Wiener Staatsoper Adina (L’elisir d’amore). Nauwelijks een jaar later maakte ze haar debuut in de Metropolitan Opera en sindsdien is ze wereldwijd in titelrollen te horen.

Criciti en het publiek roemen haar stem die een grote lyrische schoonheid bezit, “met gloeiende, hoge noten van gesponnen goud en een donker, vibrerend conteraltbereik dat herinnert aan Maria Callas.” Ook als actrice zet Angela Gheorghiu telkens weer fenomenale prestaties neer. Glanspartijen van haar zijn Tosca (bijvoorbeeld in de beroemde productie van het Royal Opera House aan de zijde van Bryn Terfel en Jonas Kaufmann), Charlotte uit Massenets opera Werther (Wiener Staatsoper & Salzburger Festspiele) en de titelrol van Adriana Lecouvreur (onder andere op een bekroonde DVD van Decca).

De Chileens-Amerikaanse tenor Jonathan Tetelman is een reizende ster aan het operafirmament: geboren in Chili en opgevoed in New Jersey, studeerde hij zang aan zowel de Manhattan School of Music als aan de Mannes School of Music. Na drie jaren als DJ te hebben gewerkt in een club in Manhattan, wierp hij zich volledig op zijn zangcarrière. The Romanian opera star Angela Gheorghiu is one of the great sopranos of our time. In 1992 she made her international debut at the Royal Opera House. After that, her career took off: in London she sang Mimi ( La bohème ) that same year and at the Wiener Staatsoper Adina ( L'elisir d'amore ). Barely a year later, she made her Metropolitan Opera debut and has since played in title roles worldwide.

Criciti and the audience praise her voice as possessing great lyrical beauty, “with glowing high notes of spun gold and a dark, vibrating conteralt range reminiscent of Maria Callas.” Angela Gheorghiu also puts in phenomenal performances time and again as an actress.
