Acht Menschen, sieben Sprachen, treffen aufeinander. Sie ringen um Worte. Sie ringen mit Worten. Sie zitieren die Bibel und Goethe, der Faust die Bibel übersetzen lässt. Jemand hat das kommunistische Manifest dabei. Ein anderer Roland Barthes. Eine dritte T.S. Eliot. Sie untersuchen, üben, erforschen, sezieren Worte und Phrasen, bauen sie um und geben ihnen neue Bedeutungen. Es wird gesprochen, geflüstert, gestottert, geliebt, gelehrt, gelacht. Eine Art Madrigal taucht auf. Später werden barocke Koloraturen exerziert. Es geht um die ganz großen Fragen, die gleichzeitig das Stück gliedern: Was war am Anfang, wo ist die Mitte, was ist das Ende, dennoch ist der Diskurs alles andere als sachlich. Die Stimmung ist affektgeladen und hochemotional.

Die Musik von Gesualdo, Vecchi, Gabrieli, Monteverdi und Zeitgenossen wird verschränkt mit A-Ronne von Luciano Berio und schlägt eine Brücke von der frühen Blütezeit des Ensemblegesangs bis in die Gegenwart. Ein Abend, der rasant durch Zeiten, Affekte und Sprachen steuert oder um mit Berio zu sprechen: A theatre for the mind!
