Guiseppe Verdi's late masterpiece as a gloomy parable of unbridled nationalism and fanatical will to rule. For the first time, the State Museum of Egyptian Art will be the scenic setting for a classic opera that, although often told, has re-explored the dramaturgical boundaries of music theater in its musical and content-related radicalism.
The performance intertwines the fictional Memphis at the time of the pharaohs, the time when the opera was created and the European present into a cultural memory space and embarks on an archaeological search for traces of the fragile foundations of our society.

Die Aufführung verschränkt das fiktive Memphis zur Zeit der Pharaonen, die Entstehungszeit der Oper und europäischen Gegenwart zu einem kulturellen Gedächtnisraum und begibt sich auf archäologische Spurensuche nach den zerbrechlichen Fundamenten unserer Gesellschaft.
Guiseppe Verdis spätes Meisterwerk als düstere Parabel auf ungebändigten Nationalismus und fanatischen Herrschaftswillen. Erstmals wird das Staatliche Museum Ägyptischer Kunst zum szenischen Schauplatz eines klassischen Opernstoffs, der, obwohl oft erzählt, in seiner musikalischen wie inhaltlichen Radikalität die dramaturgischen Grenzen des Musiktheaters neu ausgelotet hat.
