Tot 2011 was Aleppo een bruisende metropool waar allerlei culturen en tradities naast elkaar leefden en elkaar beïnvloedden. Byzantijnse paleizen, moskeeën, kerken en synagogen bepaalden met hun rijke en diverse architectuur het veelkleurige straatbeeld. Door de eeuwenlange kruisbestuiving van Armeense, Sefardische, Arabische en Byzantijnse stromingen ontstond er ook een rijke koortraditie. 

Dit geldt evenzo voor de muziek die er werd gespeeld en een rijke koortraditie voortbracht. Geïnspireerd door de reis die Willem Bruls maakte in 2000 is Leonard Evers in gesprek gegaan met (onder meer) deze theatermaker die voor de VPRO de serie Zes wandelingen door Aleppo creëerde. Hoe anders is de situatie nu, met alle musici die door de burgeroorlog zijn uitgewaaierd over de hele wereld en de tradities uit deze monumentale wereldstad met zich meenamen. In het programma Aleppo schept Leonard Evers een muzikale reconstructie van deze glorieuze metropool van weleer. Musici uit Aleppo zullen zich weer herenigen op het podium en de tradities van destijds verklanken

Until 2011, Aleppo was a vibrant metropolis where all kinds of cultures and traditions lived side by side and influenced each other. Byzantine palaces, mosques, churches and synagogues determined the multi-colored street scene with their rich and diverse architecture. The centuries-long cross-pollination of Armenian, Sephardic, Arabic and Byzantine movements also created a rich choral tradition. 

This also applies to the music that was played there, which produced a rich choral tradition. A choral tradition created by centuries of cross-pollination of Armenian, Sephardic, Arabic and Byzantine movements. Inspired by the journey that Willem Bruls made in 2000, Leonard Evers entered into conversation with (among others) this theater maker who created the series Six walks through Aleppo for the VPRO. How different the situation is now, with all the musicians who spread all over the world due to the civil war and took the traditions from this monumental metropolis with them. In the Aleppo program, Leonard Evers creates a musical reconstruction of this glorious metropolis of yesteryear. Musicians from Aleppo will reunite on stage and express the traditions of the past.
