DVOC updates this family holiday classic with modern twist, drawing on the composer's childhood Christmas memories, that were the inspiration for the opera. The year is 1919. The place, composer Gian Carlo Menotti's war-torn home town in northern Italy. Yet one little boy is brimming with anticipation of the annual Epiphany visit of the Three Magi, who leave gifts for the children while they sleep. Only this year, he has caught them! The proof is there...they arrived at night dressed in strange attire, they are following a star, and they bring gifts of wonderful things like chocolate and cigarettes! These MUST be the Three Magi...
