Teatru Manoel’s own new production of Armida, an opera in three acts by Italian composer Gioachino Rossini to an Italian libretto by Giovanni Schmidt. This production features renowned soprano Elisa Balbo in the lead role along with Malta's The Three Tenors Nico Darmanin, Alan Sciberras and Cliff Zammit Stevens, KorMalta, the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra and Moveo Dance Company, with costumes designed by Luke Azzopardi. It is directed by Paul Carr and conducted by Davide Levi.



This is the first time that the opera is being staged in Malta and it tells the tale of the Saracen sorceress Armida, who uses her powers to bewitch and ensnare her Crusader enemies. With Rossini's masterful composition and the exquisite libretto by Giovanni Schmidt, this production promises to transport the audience to a world of magic, love, and betrayal.



This opera is a true testament to Rossini's genius, with its intricate vocal lines, breathtaking arias, and thrilling ensemble numbers. It showcases the composer's ability to create music that is both technically demanding and emotionally resonant, making it a true delight for opera enthusiasts and newcomers alike.

Din hija l-ewwel darba li din l-opra se tittella’ hawn Malta u tirrakkonta l-istorja tas-saħħara Seraċina Armida, li tuża s-setgħat tagħha biex issaħħar u tonsob l-għedewwa Kruċjati tagħha. Bil-kompożizzjoni maestuża ta’ Rossini u l-librett impressjonanti minn Giovanni Schmidt, din il-produzzjoni twiegħed li twassal l-udjenza f’dinja ta’ seħer, imħabba u tradiment.



Din l-opra hija testment veritier tal-ġenjalità ta’ Rossini, bil-linji vokal ikkumplikati, arias mill-isbaħ u xogħlijiet tal-ensemble eċċitanti, fejn turi l-abbiltà tal-kompożitur biex joħloq mużika li hi eżiġenti b’mod tekniku, u reżonanti b’mod emozzjonali, li tagħmilha tassew opra li jitgħaxxqu biha kemm entużjasti tal-opra, kif ukoll udjenzi ġodda.
