🎹 ASYNCHRONE PLAYS SAKAMOTO
Asynchrone is a new collective of musicians coming from the Parisian free jazz and electro scenes. The group is composed of a line-up of jazz instrumentalists from the same generation, curious and ready to play and restore the soul of all the influences that make up the Homeric repertoire of Japanese composer Ryuichi Sakamoto. Influenced by his freedom, his mysticism, and his ability to draw inspiration from Debussy as much as from Kraftwerk. Asynchrone revisits this monument with a breath of rebellious freedom and a communicative pleasure of playing. Their romanticism is rough and solar on "Expecting Rivers", repetitive and addictive in its "krautrock" rhythms style in "Riot in Lagos" or in full hallucinogenic rise on "Boku No Karera". More than a tribute to a frozen work, it is a tribute to creative freedom. Asynchrone plays Sakamoto.

🎨 ABOUT THE VIDEO 
"Expecting Rivers is a music video made by AI using a Machine Learning method called Disco Diffusion. This method consists of teaching the machine the style of one or more artists and then asking the machine to reverse engineer this style from a description, a reference image or a video to be styled. In this video we wanted to create a parallel between the bustle of cities and the natural flow of rivers, a video that exudes life and evolution. In an age where content is often dull and dystopian, it was necessary to bring some colour and beauty to our overconnected and overpopulated era often perceived as negative. We have chosen to rely on two Japanese artists for the research of style: Katsuhiro Otomo for everything related to the creation of imaginary cities and Osamu Tezuka for his vibrant colours and the reference to the cartoons of our childhood. This video is meant to be reassuring and to show that beauty can be found everywhere, including in the oppressive nature of our current civilisation.
We created some of the scenes from scratch, especially for the creation of these infinite cities. Other parts of the video are videos shot with a drone but also hyper lapses, time lapses of urban scenes, all stylized to keep only the movement and cover it with a natural and colourful universe. Artificial intelligence is a tool to be used with great delicacy. With its rapid evolution, many people see this technological advance as a threat to creativity, but in reality it should be seen as a tool that allows us to go much further in artistic creation. As with every technological breakthrough, you have to see the threat first and then you will be able to understand the benefits. In our work we always strive to raise the technical level to satisfy our insane artistic dreams. We are very proud of this work because the music breathes something authentic and beautiful, so we wanted the accompanying video to be a true ode to life." Sagans

Pendant un demi-siècle, Ryuichi Sakamoto a couvert un territoire sonore d’une folle envergure : inventions electro-pop (avec Yellow Magic Orchestra), fresques pour le cinéma (Furyo, Le Dernier Empereur…), pièces pour piano minimalistes, créations à la croisée des traditions, de l’ambient, du jazz, des musiques répétitives… Rien n’a résisté à ce génie caméléon épris de justesse et soucieux du moindre détail. Mené par les sensibilités panoramiques de Frédéric Soulard et Clément Petit, le collectif Asynchrone se saisit avec gourmandise de cette œuvre protéiforme, propice à d’infinis jeux de langages, timbres et textures – dont une poignée de titres avec le Quatuor Una Corda. Avec la disparition de Sakamoto en mars 2023, l’hommage prend une dimension plus émouvante encore : il n’en reste pas moins un tribut débordant de vitalité à son exceptionnelle liberté créatrice.

For half a century, Ryuichi Sakamoto has covered a sonic territory of incredible scope: electro-pop inventions (with Yellow Magic Orchestra), frescoes for the cinema (Furyo, The Last Emperor...), minimalist piano pieces, the crossroads of traditions, ambient, jazz, repetitive music… Nothing resisted this chameleon genius who loves accuracy and cares about the smallest detail. Led by the panoramic sensibilities of Frédéric Soulard and Clément Petit, the Asynchrone collective seizes with relish this protean work, conducive to infinite games of languages, timbres and textures – including a handful of titles with the Una Corda Quartet. With the disappearance of Sakamoto in March 2023, the tribute takes on an even more moving dimension:
