Oratorio Society of New York (OSNY) concludes its 2022-23 season at Carnegie Hall with Bach’s pinnacle of Baroque sacred music – Mass in B Minor. Completed at the end of his life and career, Bach’s largest and most complex mass encompasses the range of human experience, from joy to sorrow and solemnity to praise. Composed over a 25-year period, the work is divided into four sections, beginning with the Kyrie and Gloria, written in 1733. Towards the end of his life in 1740, Bach began to assemble his finest works to preserve them in a monumental structure. During this time, he expanded the work into a full mass, leaving us with this choral masterpiece.

Kent Tritle leads the orchestra and chorus, alongside soloists soprano Emily Donato, mezzo-soprano Lucia Bradford, tenor Brian Giebler, and baritone Sidney Outlaw, the Oratorio Society of New York presents this breathtaking work in its characteristically grand, yet nuanced style, in a must-see event at Carnegie Hall. OSNY’s extensive history with the piece includes a 15-year stint of successive performances between 1925 to 1941.
