Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) fait partie sans conteste de ces compositeurs « sans frontières » qui ont su jouer avec les styles musicaux nationaux de leur temps, les modeler et les façonner selon leur propre génie. Christophe Rousset propose une mise en lumière originale de la musique du célèbre cantor dans ce programme tout européen, multicolore, fait d’emprunts et d’inspiration au voyage.

Ainsi, la Suite nº 2 pour flûte, cordes et basse continueBWV 1067, avec son ouverture et ses danses « à la française » et la cantate en langue italienne Non so che sia doloreBWV 209 encadrent une autre merveilleuse cantate pour soprano, Orfeo, de l’italien Giovanni Battista Pergolesi (1710-1736), ainsi que des extraits d’œuvres de deux maîtres français de l’art des « goûts réunis » : François Couperin (1668-1733) et André Campra (1660-1744). Ces extraits mettent à l’honneur tour à tour la pureté du contrepoint germanique, la légèreté du chant italien et la noblesse de l’Espagne, mêlant la sonade de « L’Impériale » et la passacaille de « L’Espagnole » extraites des fameuses Nations de Couperin ; ainsi que deux airs de Campra, en langue italienne (« La farfalla intorno ai fiori », extrait des Fêtes Vénitiennes) et espagnole (« El esperar en amor » extrait de L’Europe galante). Toutes composées du vivant de Bach, ces œuvres ainsi rassemblées témoignent de l’enthousiasme et de l’effervescence qu’ont suscité chez les musiciens et leurs publics ces confrontations de nations en musique à travers toute l’Europe du xviiiesiècle.

Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) is undoubtedly one of those “borderless” composers who knew how to play with the national musical styles of their time, model them and shape them according to their own genius. Christophe Rousset offers an original highlighting of the music of the famous cantor in this all-European, multi-colored program, made of borrowings and inspiration from travel.

Thus, Suite No. 2 for flute, strings and basso continuo BWV 1067, with its overture and its “French-style” dances and the Italian-language cantata Non so che sia dolore BWV 209 frame another marvelous cantata for soprano, Orfeo , by the Italian Giovanni Battista Pergolesi (1710-1736), as well as extracts from the works of two French masters of the art of “united tastes”: François Couperin (1668-1733) and André Campra (1660-1744). These extracts highlight in turn the purity of Germanic counterpoint, the lightness of Italian singing and the nobility of Spain, mixing the sonade of “L'Impériale” and the passacaglia of “L'Espagnene” taken from the famous Couperin Nations ; as well as two arias by Campra, in Italian (“La farfalla intorno ai fiori”, taken from Les Fêtes Vénitiennes ) and Spanish (“El esperar en amor” taken from L’Europe galante ).
