In 2022, the fin-de-siècle composer César Franck will celebrate his 200th birthday. Franck is considered one of the most important French sound creators and organists of his time. For his anniversary, his main work will be performed in the Bach Choir concert: »Les Béatitudes«. The work is a monumental oratorical setting of the Beatitudes from Jesus' Sermon on the Mount and is on a par with the great oratorios of the 19th century. Due to its symmetrical layout, the work describes a large arc: a short prologue is followed by eight movements in which the words of Christ are contrasted with earthly scenes – contrasts that the chorus comments on. The work ends with a great hymn: the entry into paradise.

Im Jahr 2022 feiert der Fin-de-siècle-Komponist César Franck seinen 200. Geburtstag. Franck gilt heute als einer der bedeutendsten französischen Klangschöpfer und Organisten seiner Zeit. Zu seinem Jubiläum kommt im Bachchor-Konzert sein Hauptwerk zur Aufführung: »Les Béatitudes«. Das Werk ist eine monumentale oratorische Vertonung der Seligpreisungen aus der Bergpredigt Jesu und steht auf Augenhöhe mit den großen Oratorien des 19. Jahrhunderts. Durch seine symmetrische Anlage beschreibt das Werk einen großen Bogen: Auf einen kurzen Prolog folgen acht Sätze, in denen die Christusworte irdischen Szenen gegenübergestellt werden – Kontraste, die der Chor kommentiert. Mit einem großen Hymnus endet das Werk: dem Einzug ins Paradies.
