»Jauchzet, jubelt, o ihr glücklichen Seelen, singt süße Lieder; eurem Lied antwortend sollen die Himmel Psalmen mit mir singen«, ertönt es glockenhell in Mozarts eröffnenden »Exsultate«. Dazu erklingen zwei kurzweilige und hochvirtuose Sinfonien. Mozarts berühmte Prager Sinfonie und Carl Philipp Emanuel Bachs spritzige D-Dur-Sinfonie, die sich wie ein Spiegel gegenüberstehen. Den ersten Teil des Konzerts beschließt das kurze doppelchörige, für den Hamburger Michel komponierte »Heilig« von Mozarts Vorbild Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, das im Jubiläumsjahr des Carl-Philipp-Emanuel-Bach-Chor Hamburg natürlich nicht fehlen darf.

Hauptwerk des Abends aber ist die berühmte Krönungsmesse. Mozarts festliche Krönungsmesse in C-Dur und das jubilierende Exsultate: erhebender kann man sich auf das Weihnachtsfest nicht vorbereiten. Auch wenn die Krönungsmesse nicht für eine Krönung komponiert worden ist, sondern in einem ganz gewöhnlichen Ostergottesdienst im Jahr 1779 im wunderschönen Salzburger Dom erklang, wird der Klang dieser Messe – die einzige von Mozarts großen Messen, die vollständig vorliegt – von Pauken und Trompeten bestimmt. Und so schreibt Ton Koopman, der Schirmherr der neugegründeten Carl-Philipp-Emanuel-Bach-Akademie Hamburg, über die Krönungsmesse: »Jeder ist glücklich, wenn man sie aufführt: das Publikum, das Orchester, der Chor – jeder ist glücklich bei dieser wunderschönen Musik.«

“Rejoice, rejoice, o happy souls, sing sweet songs; in answer to your song the heavens shall sing psalms with me«, sounds bell-like in Mozart's opening »Exsultate«. In addition, two entertaining and highly virtuoso symphonies sound. Mozart's famous Prague Symphony and Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach's bubbly D major Symphony facing each other like a mirror. The first part of the concert concludes with the short double-choir »Holy« composed for the Hamburger Michel by Mozart’s role model Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, which of course cannot be left out in the anniversary year of the Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach Choir Hamburg.

The main work of the evening, however, is the famous coronation mass. Mozart's festive Coronation Mass in C major and the jubilant Exsultate: there is no better way to prepare for Christmas. Even if the coronation mass was not composed for a coronation, but was performed in a very ordinary Easter service in 1779 in the beautiful Salzburg Cathedral, the sound of this mass - the only one of Mozart's great masses that is complete - is determined by drums and trumpets. And so Ton Koopman, the patron of the newly founded Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach Academy in Hamburg, writes about the Coronation Mass: »Everyone is happy when it is performed: the audience, the orchestra, the choir - everyone is happy at this beautiful one Music."
