Probably no other opera contains so many “hits” as Carmen. Yet despite its popularity, there is always something new to be discovered in the work – which is also the case in this 2012 performance from the Philharmonie. Here, Simon Rattle presents Carmen not as an overblown grand opera, but brings out the many nuances of the score, its lightness and refinement. The main roles are sung by Magdalena Kožená and Jonas Kaufmann.
