Absolutny hit muzyki klasycznej, wciąż inspirujący artystów: od twórców reklam po zespoły heavymetalowe. Każde wykonanie Carmina Burana wypełnia sale koncertowe do ostatniego miejsca, a historia powstania dzieła pokazuje, jak owocne może być spotkanie średniowiecza (tekst) z XX wiekiem (muzyka).

 

Carl Orff śmiało połączył XIII-wieczne teksty poetyckie z muzyką, gdzie rytm i efektowne partie chóralne pełnią przewodnią rolę. Tekst kantaty kompozytor potraktował „perkusyjnie”, wprowadzając wielokrotne powtórzenia słów czy fraz oraz eksponując sylaby. Utwór składa się z trzech części. Pierwsza, Primo vere, opiewa uroki natury, druga, In taberna, jest pochwałą zabawy i uciech stołu, natomiast trzecia, Cour d’amours, sławi miłość. Części spina klamrą słynny prolog, powtórzony też na końcu dzieła: O Fortuno, niby księżyc nieustannie zmienna /ciągle rośniesz / lub zanikasz / ciemna lub promienna. Niezależnie od wieku słowa te nadal pozostają aktualne, a Carmina Burana poruszają słuchaczy, czy to w XX, czy w XXI wieku.

Each performance of Carmina Burana fills concert halls to the last seat, and the history of the creation of the work shows how fruitful the meeting of the Middle Ages (text) with the 20th century (music) can be.

 

Carl Orff boldly combined thirteenth-century poetic texts with music, where rhythm and spectacular choral parts play the leading role. The composer treated the text of the cantata in a "percussive" way, introducing multiple repetitions of words or phrases and emphasizing syllables. The piece consists of three parts. The first, Primo vere, celebrates the charms of nature, the second, In taberna, praises the fun and pleasures of the table, while the third, Cour d'amours, celebrates love. The parts are connected by a famous prologue, also repeated at the end of the work: O Fortuna, like the moon constantly changing / constantly growing / or disappearing / dark or radiant. Regardless of the age, these words still remain valid, and Carmina Burana moves listeners, whether in the 20th or 21st century.
