During his lifetime he was known more as a virtuoso violinist than a composer, and his works were not published until after his death. The reason was simple: Niccolò Paganini (1782-1840), because he was the one in question, assumed that these works could only be performed by him. Today, most of them constitute the canon of the repertoire of most concert halls in the world.

We invite you to listen to one of the most famous violin concertos not only by Paganini himself, but also in the history of music. Violin Concerto No. 2 in B minor, Op. 7 is best known for its third movement. It is thanks to her that the whole piece gained the nickname La Campanella (incl. the bell). In the score, the composer recorded the sound of bells with each repetition of the main theme. The sound of the bell is also imitated by the orchestra itself and in some spectacular passages by the soloist. The final Rondo became an inspiration for the famous La campanella by Liszt and Waltz à la Paganini by Strauss. This thrilling and extremely virtuosic concert will be performed on our stage by Andrey Baranov - an excellent violinist, winner of the prestigious T. Queen Elisabeth in Brussels (2012) as well as a staggering number of over twenty other violin competitions. In 1893 , Alexander von Zemlinsky's Symphony No. 1 in D minor
 

premiered(1871-1942), which will be heard in the second part of our concert. He is not a composer whose music is often performed in Polish concert halls, which is a pity, because this extremely talented artist was a pupil of the greatest. His teachers were Gustav Mahler and Johannes Brahms; the latter supported him to the end of his life.

Symphony No. 1 was written in 1892-93, when Zemlinsky was only 21 and still a student. It is a work written under the influence of his great teachers, but also of other famous composers of the time: Richard Strauss, Richard Wagner, Anton Bruckner and Giuseppe Verdi. The influence of their music on the first symphony of the young Zemlinsky is clearly audible. The work consists of four parts and is part of the Romantic aesthetics. This choice was most likely the result of the overwhelming influence of Brahms. This symphony is distinguished by the strong lyricism that Zemlinsky skillfully imparts to all sections of the orchestra, and there is no lack of drama in Bruckner's best style. Indeed, Zemlinsky's compositions are an excellent introduction to the music of the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.

This evening, our Orchestra will be conducted by the Spanish conductor Ricardo Casero, who learned from the best masters of the baton of our time: Zubin Mehta, Lorin Maazel or Riccardo Chailly, and is currently the chief conductor of one of the leading orchestras in Spain - Orquesta Reino de Aragón, with which he has made many well-received album recordings.
