The special feature of the world-famous musical is that its music was composed by two members of the former legendary Swedish band ABBA, Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson. The story takes place during the Cold War, during a World Chess Championship doubles match, and centers on an unfolding love triangle. The trio consists of an American and a Russian chess player, as well as the Hungarian-born woman who is the former's manager but falls in love with the latter. Both the United States and the Soviet Union do their best to use the outcome of the match for propaganda purposes. Although we cannot claim that the characters of the play are real people, it is undeniable that the figure of the American player was modeled after Bobby Fischer, while the plot, the story, and within that the other elements of the match are two Soviet chess phenomena,

A világhírű musical különlegessége, hogy zenéjét az egykori legendás svéd zenekar, az ABBA két tagja, Björn Ulvaeus és Benny Andersson szerezte. A történet a hidegháború idején játszódik, egy sakkvilágbajnoksági párosmérkőzésen, középpontjában pedig egy kibontakozó szerelmi háromszög áll. A trió résztvevői egy amerikai és egy orosz sakkozó, valamint az a magyar születésű nő, aki előbbinek a menedzsere, de utóbbiba szeret bele. Mind az Egyesült Államok, mind a Szovjetunió mindent megtesz azért, hogy propagandacélokra használja fel a mérkőzés végeredményét. Bár a darab szereplőiről nem állíthatjuk, hogy valós személyek, az tagadhatatlan, hogy az amerikai játékos figuráját Bobby Fischerről mintázták, míg a cselekmény, a történet, és ezen belül a mérkőzés további elemei két szovjet sakkozó fenomén, Viktor Korcsnoj és Anatolij Karpov pályafutásának bizonyos pillanataira emlékeztetnek.
