CONCERT IN MEMORY OF THE GREAT NIKOLA NIKOLOV -

IN THE SOFIA OPERA - FROM THE HEART!

Everyone who has attended performances at the Sofia Opera and Ballet with tenor Nikola Nikolov (1925 -2007) calls him "the tenor of popular love." His contemporaries say that after each of his participation in premiere performances, out of admiration for the singer, people carried him in their arms to his home on Dondukov Blvd. They waited for him in front of the official entrance of the Opera and sang with him the Triumphal March from "Aida".

Nikolov's voice is defined as a powerful lyrical tenor, with an expressive middle and low register. In his long singing career, which lasted almost until his 75th birthday, Nikola Nikolov has over 1500 performances and concerts, he sang almost all the central tenor parts of Italian masters. Characteristic of his performances are the sharp dramatic accents, temperament and warmth of his voice.

He sang at the age of 70 in "Carmen" as Don Jose on March 23, 1995 on the stage of the Sofia Opera. At the age of 75 he played the role of Manrico from "Troubadour", playing the Streta in C major. At the age of 80 he performed a duet of Manrico and Azuchena from "Troubadour" with Stefka Mineva.

Nikola Nikolov leaves in opera history his unique incarnations of Radames and Manrico, of Rudolf and Calaf, of Canio and Pinkerton, of don Jose and Alfred. According to music historians, it is an entire era of the most beautiful, most romantic period in our opera history!
