Da Bach a Villa-Lobos nasce come format per la televisione grazie alla collaborazione tra Andrea Bacchetti e Piero Chiambretti, con l’obiettivo di portare sul grande schermo una selezione di brani a comporre un vero e proprio percorso attraverso quattro secoli di musica per tastiera. In forma di concerto, Da Bach a Villa-Lobos diviene un recital pianistico guidato dal racconto di Andrea Bacchetti, che accompagnerà il pubblico attraverso la spiegazione e l’esecuzione musicale dei brani.

Il programma si apre con quattro preludi e fughe dal Clavicembalo ben temperato di Johann Sebastian Bach, del quale Bacchetti ha recentemente pubblicato un’integrale del secondo volume per l’etichetta discografica Arthaus Musik, riscuotendo grande successo dalla critica internazionale. Il Clavicembalo ben temperato, raccolta costituita da 48 preludi e fughe in due volumi, è un tassello fondamentale della storia della musica, punto di riferimento per compositori ed interpreti sia al clavicembalo sia al pianoforte, nonché passaggio cruciale nell’affermazione del sistema tonale. Si procede con la Sonata in do minore di Domenico Cimarosa e tre sonate inedite di Domenico Scarlatti. Cimarosa e Scarlatti ebbero un importante ruolo nello sviluppo della musica per tastiera, con cataloghi che contano rispettivamente circa 120 e 555 sonate, in un periodo storico (primo e secondo Settecento) in cui le possibilità tecniche degli strumenti a tastiera si articolavano e ampliavano costantemente, con clavicembalo, fortepiano e i primi prototipi di ciò che sarebbe poi diventato il moderno pianoforte.

Seguono tre fra i più celebri brani della tradizione classica e romantica, dove il pianoforte – ormai tecnicamente simile allo strumento che conosciamo oggi – diventa protagonista nelle produzioni di alcuni tra i compositori più influenti: la Fantasia in re minore K. 397 di Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, l’Improvviso n. 2 op. 142 di Franz Schubert e la Consolazione n. 3 di Franz Liszt.

Passando al primo Novecento pianistico, con sempre nuove ricerche attorno al timbro di uno strumento dalle mille sfaccettature: Notturno di Lili Boulanger, compositrice e pianista francese vissuta tra la fine dell’Ottocento e l’inizio del Novecento. Nonostante il suo grande talento la sua produzione di Boulanger – e brani come Notturno non fanno eccezione – è di rara esecuzione. Il programma si chiude con The Little Shepherd e Jimbo’s Lullaby di Claude Debussy, dalla raccolta Children’s Corner, ispirata al mondo dell’infanzia proprio come la raccolta A prole do bebê di Heitor Villa-Lobos, da cui è tratto O polichinelo.

From Bach to Villa-Lobos was born as a format for television thanks to the collaboration between Andrea Bacchetti and Piero Chiambretti, with the aim of bringing a selection of songs to the big screen to compose a real journey through four centuries of keyboard music. In concert form, From Bach to Villa-Lobos becomes a piano recital guided by the story of Andrea Bacchetti, who will accompany the audience through the explanation and musical performance of the pieces.

The program opens with four preludes and fugues from the Well-Tempered Clavier by Johann Sebastian Bach, of which Bacchetti recently published the complete second volume for the Arthaus Musik record label, enjoying great success from international critics. The Well-Tempered Clavier , a collection consisting of 48 preludes and fugues in two volumes, is a fundamental piece of the history of music, a point of reference for composers and performers on both the harpsichord and the piano, as well as a crucial step in the affirmation of the tonal system. We proceed with the Sonata in C minor by Domenico Cimarosa and three unpublished sonatas by Domenico Scarlatti. Cimarosa and Scarlatti played an important role in the development of keyboard music, with catalogs that number approximately 120 and 555 sonatas respectively, in a historical period (early and late eighteenth century) in which the technical possibilities of keyboard instruments were constantly articulated and expanded, with harpsichord, fortepiano and the first prototypes of what would later become the modern piano.

Three of the most famous pieces of the classical and romantic tradition follow, where the piano - now technically similar to the instrument we know today - becomes the protagonist in the productions of some of the most influential composers: the Fantasy in D minor K. 397 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart , the Impromptu no. 2 op. 142 by Franz Schubert and Consolation n. 3 by Franz Liszt.

Moving on to the early twentieth century in piano, with ever new research around the timbre of an instrument with a thousand facets: Notturno by Lili Boulanger, a French composer and pianist who lived between the end of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth century. Despite her great talent, her production of Boulanger – and pieces like Notturno are no exception – is rarely performed. The program ends with The Little Shepherd and Jimbo's Lullaby by Claude Debussy, from the collection Children's Corner , inspired by the world of childhood just like the collection A prole do bebê by Heitor Villa-Lobos, from which O polichinelo is based .
