Universum Film AG – UFA for short – was a large German film company and one of the most important film production sites in the world. Founded in 1917, the company was transferred to other film companies in 1945. The name UFA is still associated with important film classics today. He owes his worldwide fame to a considerable extent to the numerous hits created by outstanding entertainment composers such as Ralph Benatzky, Werner Richard Heymann, Friedrich Hollaender and Michael Jary. Many of these artists had to flee from the National Socialists because of their Jewish descent or political convictions. Their forced departure caused great cultural losses that can neither be replaced nor made up for.

Die Universum Film AG – kurz UFA – war ein großer deutscher Filmkonzern und eine der bedeutendsten Filmproduktionsstätten der Welt. Gegründet 1917, ging das Unternehmen 1945 in andere Film-AGs über. Der Name UFA ist bis heute mit bedeutenden Filmklassikern verbunden. Seine weltweite Bekanntheit verdankt er zu einem beträchtlichen Teil den zahlreichen Schlagern, die herausragende Unterhaltungskomponisten wie Ralph Benatzky, Werner Richard Heymann, Friedrich Hollaender oder Michael Jary erschufen. Viele dieser Künstler:innen mussten ihrer jüdischen Abstammung oder politischen Überzeugung wegen vor den Nationalsozialisten fliehen. Ihr erzwungener Fortgang bewirkte hohe kulturelle Verluste, die weder zu ersetzen noch wiedergutzumachen sind.
