Ricordo che i napoletani notarono con stupore la bellezza dei gesti e la grazia tutta nuova che Nozzari aveva nella parte di Otello. Non era abituato a tanto». Sono le parole di Stendhal per presentare Andrea Nozzari, il "baritenore", alla cui memoria è dedicato questo concerto. Gioachino Rossini lo volle spesso come interprete per i suoi ruoli drammatici, pensando alle sue qualità canore nella composizione del suo Otello del 1816; i brani in programma sono stati i suoi cavalli di battaglia.

These are Stendhal's words to introduce Andrea Nozzari, the "baritenor", to whose memory this concert is dedicated. Gioachino Rossini often wanted him as an interpreter for his dramatic roles, thinking of his singing qualities in the composition of his Otello of 1816; the songs on the program were his strong points.
