An opera of our time bringing together professional artists and teenagers to sing about love.

She and Him sing of love against a backdrop of war, love despite the war. Her and Him, a Juliet and a Romeo that we imagine to be contemporary , young lovers whose respective peoples are fighting over the same land. Of this tumult, one hears only the song which rises from Her to Him, from Him to Her. And which opens the space of a promise.

Their voices are soft, whispered or scratchy to evoke sensuality, anger, despair and the desire for a peaceful love. Through two monologues facing each other, alternate the energy of rock and the suspended time of meditation. Catherine Kollen brings together professional artists and a choir of teenagers, from theater and music classes, to sing about fervor and youth.

Who would have thought that contemporary music could roar like rock? It's all the talent of Alexandros Markeas who knows how to bring together the passionate souls of this love story against a backdrop of war... with TM+ once again where we least expect it.

Touched by the play by Sébastien Joanniez (2009 Collidram Prize), Catherine Kollen brought together professional artists and a choir of teenagers from theater and music classes, to sing about fervor and youth.

To accompany these tender whispers, these heartfelt cries and these torments of a love threatened by the circumstances of the conflict, to repel the sound of bombs and the tragic sirens of deaths and massacres, music was needed that could express all the colors of the soul, all the nuances of drama, from hope to tragedy, passing through joyful innocence and the pleasures of play. In short, synthesizing the human experience in the face of danger, death, loss. Bringing out the life drive in the contemplation of evil.

Faced with this challenge, entrusting this musical creation to Alexandros Markeas was obvious. The Franco-Greek composer knows like no other how to tap into the essence of the most diverse musical genres, whether traditional or popular , to marry them harmoniously in today's subtle and poetic writing. Immersed in the crucible of his sensitivity navigating between several times and different currents, furious rock textures and hypnotic atmospheres find themselves metamorphosed into a mental puzzle which is built as the piece progresses.

Thus the words, the notes meet at the confluence of the same story, alternating, with the sharp and passionate thread of the two monologues, the energy of rock and the suspended time of meditation.

Un opéra de notre temps réunissant artistes professionnels et adolescents pour chanter l’amour.

Elle et Lui chantent l’amour sur fond de guerre, l’amour malgré la guerre. Elle et Lui, une Juliette et un Roméo que l’on imagine contemporains, jeunes amants dont les peuples respectifs se disputent la même terre. De ce tumulte, on n’entend que le chant qui monte d’Elle à Lui, de Lui à Elle. Et qui ouvre l’espace d’une promesse.

Leurs voix sont douces, chuchotées ou éraillées pour évoquer la sensualité, la colère, le désespoir et le désir d’un amour apaisé. A travers deux monologues se faisant face, alternent l’énergie du rock et le temps suspendu de la méditation. Catherine Kollen réunit des artistes professionnels et un chœur d’adolescents, issus de classes de théâtre et de musique, pour chanter la ferveur et la jeunesse.

Qui aurait pensé que la musique contemporaine pouvait rugir comme du rock ? C’est tout le talent d’Alexandros Markeas qui sait faire dialoguer les âmes passionnées de cette histoire d’amour sur fond de guerre... avec TM+ une fois de + là où on ne l’attend pas.

Touchée par la pièce de Sébastien Joanniez (Prix Collidram 2009), Catherine Kollen a réuni des artistes professionnels et un chœur d’adolescents issus de classes de théâtre et de musique, pour chanter la ferveur et la jeunesse.

Pour accompagner ces tendres chuchotements, ces cris des cœurs et ces tourments d’un amour menacé par les circonstances du conflit, pour repousser le bruit des bombes et les sirènes tragiques des morts et des massacres, il fallait une musique qui puisse exprimer toutes les couleurs de l’âme, toutes les nuances du drame, de l’espoir au tragique en passant par l’innocence joyeuse et les plaisirs du jeu. En somme, synthétiser l’expérience humaine face au danger, à la mort, à la perte. Faire jaillir la pulsion de vie dans la contemplation du mal.

Face à ce défi, confier cette création musicale à Alexandros Markeas s’est présenté comme une évidence. Le compositeur franco-grec sait comme nul autre puiser dans l’essence des genres musicaux les plus divers, qu’ils soient traditionnels ou populaires, pour les marier harmonieusement dans une écriture d’aujourd’hui subtile et poétique. Plongées dans le creuset de sa sensibilité naviguant entre plusieurs temps et différents courants, textures rock furieuses et atmosphères hypnotiques se retrouvent métamorphosées en un puzzle mental qui se construit au fur et à mesure de la pièce.

Ainsi les mots, les notes se rencontrent au confluent d’une même histoire, faisant alterner, au fil tranchant et passionné des deux monologues, l’énergie du rock et le temps suspendu de la méditation.
