"Paradise on the seashore" - who wouldn't want to be there? But the mood in the Hawaiian paradise is gloomy: the island state has been annexed by the Americans for thirty years, and resistance to colonial rule is stirring among the locals. Appropriately, Princess Laya is now returning to her homeland from exile, thwarting the plans of the American governor: He wants his niece to marry the Hawaiian prince Lilo-Taro in order to stabilize his rule. However, Lilo-Taro falls in love with Laya, who has been promised to him since childhood and wants to rule Hawaii with her as the rightful royal couple. But then there's the American Captain Stone, to whom Laya fell in love...

With Die Blume von Hawaii , Paul Abraham premiered a jazz operetta in 1931 that played cheekily and entertainingly with South Sea clichés and cultural conflicts. Musically, the piece inspires with snappy dances, big revue numbers, jazzy wind instruments and exotic timbres.

This masterpiece of musical entertainment theater can be experienced for the first time at Theater Hagen.
