When the curtain rose for the first time on November 17, 1915 in the Johann Strauss Theater in Vienna for the operetta “Die Csárdásfürstin”, the audience witnessed the birth of a global success. Kálmán's music shows an enormous wealth.
He skillfully combines the melancholy of the Hungarian csárdás with the elegance of the Viennese waltz and new elements from the world of popular music. Melodies like “Chose doesn't work without women”, “Do you remember?”, “The girls from the Chantant”, “Let's do it after the swallows” or “Jai Mamam Bruderherz” went around the world after the premiere and became to real catchy tunes.
