Avec sa délicieuse atmosphère viennoise mâtinée de cadences tziganes, l'oeuvre de Kálmán triomphe depuis 1915, notamment lorsqu'elle est servie par de grands interprètes, à l'image de Marcel Merkès et Paulette Merval. Princesse Czardas ayant été l'opérette de leurs adieux, ces représentations se veulent un hommage à ces artistes d'exception.
