A complex and therefore all the more interesting story of intrigue, adultery, high-flying ambitions and seemingly carefree fun in luxurious costumes, called The Bat (Die Fledermaus), is undoubtedly one of the finest operetta pearls of the Viennese "king of waltzes" Johann Strauss Jr., who to this day already reached thousands of performances all over the world. And there is almost certainly no stage on which this operetta would not show in all its splendor the duplicity of the Viennese bourgeoisie, torn between frivolous hedonism and false bourgeois morality. Strauss Jr. was encouraged to create operetta by the French "operetta king" Jacques Offenbach, who was convinced that Strauss' lighter stage genre was written on his skin, so to speak. Too many titillating stage situations written by the librettists Karl Haffner and Richard Genée based on Benedix's farce, thus "curving" Eisenstein's fickleness, the consequent disappointment of his wife Rosalind, the acting ambitions of their maid Adele and Alfredo's courtship of Rosalind. But all this is just a prelude to a dance party in Prince Orlovsky's villa, where events suddenly escalate into a real breakneck omnibus of fun and unmasking, when everyone gets exactly what they deserve - even if it's just a "sober" to reality in one from the Viennese prison cells, which are "vigilantly" watched over by the jailer Frosch, who cannot resist a noble drop of ruj.
