“I am not a friend and I am not a servant. I am the cat that goes for a walk alone.” – a very clear answer that the cat gives when people try to tame it. How is it that cats are lovable, fluffy, trusting and also reliable as mouse catchers and still don't let anything be said? How is it to be half free and half wild? And how can humans and animals with their different ideas of freedom live together?
Rudyard Kipling, creator of  The Jungle Book , got involved with the  just-so-fairy tales, also the one from the cat that went its own way, explains the world to his children. In these fantastic stories, their wondrous ideas and sometimes philosophical reflections on the course of the world, there is a profound, humorous, playful explanation for every aspect of humans and animals, no matter how obscure. Based on these stories, Mike Svoboda and Anne-May Krüger have developed an opera (not only suitable for children) that celebrates togetherness and individuality in a humorous and poetic way.
