Die lustige Witwe (The Merry Widow), Lehár
Operetta
Franz Lehár was born in Komorn (Hungary) in 1870 and died in Bad Ischl in 1948. In 1905 he made his breakthrough as an operetta composer with The Merry Widow. With his death, the heyday of bourgeois operetta sank with him. His music is sparkling and full of rhythmic and melodic ideas. With The Merry Widow he became the primus inter pares of the then composers of the easy muse.
