Children's Opera Cologne - THE WALKÜRE FOR YOUNG AND OLD by Richard Wagner

For many years, a sword has mysteriously been stuck in a tree trunk in the hut of the couple Sieglinde and Hunding. Who is it for? And what hidden magic does this sword hold?

In »Die Walküre« the destinies of the gods and the people mingle. God father Wotan and his wife Fricka come down to earth and influence the lives of mortals: Sieglinde finds her lost twin brother Siegmund again, Siegmund has to fight Hunding and also face a superhuman danger.

Unexpectedly, Siegmund and Sieglinde get help from the brave Valkyrie Brünnhilde, daughter of the god Wotan. Brünnhilde and her sisters strike out on their father's orders, thereby securing the dominion of the gods. But when Brünnhilde defies Wotan's order, a terrible quarrel ensues between father and daughter, and Brünnhilde must give up her extraordinary powers and henceforth wait as an ordinary human, sleeping in a ring of fire... and only a hero freer than is the gods can pass through this fire.
