A classic that is indispensable on the stages of this world. In the secret main role: Wuppertal and its citizens. Princess Pamina, the daughter of the star-blazing queen, has been kidnapped by Sarastro. Prince Tamino is supposed to free them in the company of the bird catcher Papageno. With the help of the magical carillon and the magic flute, the two overcome all dangers. But what is good, what is bad? Suddenly it is no longer clear.

In 1791 Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart wanted to inspire the audience of a Viennese suburban theater with his enigmatic Singspiel. The sublime and the ridiculous, the tragedy and the farce follow one another and result in the image of a small but comprehensive world theater. With his debut at the Wuppertal Opera, director Bernd Mottl shifts the action into today, right in the middle of our city.

On Thursday, June 16, 2022 our first ›change of side‹: On this evening, for the first time, instead of our symphony orchestra, an amateur orchestra will play an opera performance with the Instrumental-Verein Wuppertal! Otherwise everything stays as usual.

Ein Klassiker, der von den Bühnen dieser Welt nicht wegzudenken ist. In der heimlichen Hauptrolle: Wuppertal und seine Bürger_innen. Prinzessin Pamina, die Tochter der sternflammenden Königin, ist von Sarastro entführt worden. Prinz Tamino soll sie in Begleitung des Vogelfängers Papageno befreien. Mit Hilfe des magischen Glockenspiels und der Zauberflöte überwinden die beiden sämtliche Gefahren. Doch was ist gut, was ist böse? Plötzlich ist das nicht mehr klar.

Im Jahre 1791 wollte Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart mit seinem rätselhaften Singspiel das Publikum eines Wiener Vorstadt-Theaters begeistern. Erhabenes und Lächerliches, Tragik und Posse folgen unmittelbar aufeinander und ergeben das Bild eines kleinen, aber umfassenden Welttheaters. Regisseur Bernd Mottl verlagert mit seinem Debüt an der Oper Wuppertal das Geschehen ins Heute, mitten in unsere Stadt.
