How do Tamino and Pamina - the "noble couple" - look back on their adventurous meeting, which presented them with challenging ordeal? The stormy beginning of their relationship tells of the conflict between Sarastro and the Queen of the Night and the decline of their respective reigns. The struggle for a new order in view of the outdated systems unfolds between the generations. A king's son meets the long-established ruler and the princess finds herself at odds with the methods of her royal mother...

Tomo Sugao, who directs at major festivals and opera houses in Europe, Asia and the United States, made his directorial debut with THE MAGIC FLUTE. After his complex interpretation of the great Polish national opera KRÓL ROGER in May 2022, he will return to the Cottbus State Theater in the 22.23 season and reinvent Mozart's ludicrous Singspiel for the third time in his career. Between the seemingly mystical personal parallels, he spins a game between different time levels and developmental stages of life.

Der stürmische Beginn ihrer Beziehung erzählt vom Konflikt zwischen Sarastro und der Königin der Nacht und dem Verfall ihrer jeweiligen Herrschaft. Das Ringen um eine neue Ordnung in Anbetracht der veralteten Systeme entfaltet sich zwischen den Generationen. Ein Königssohn trifft auf den alteingesessenen Herrscher und die Prinzessin gerät in Konflikt mit den Methoden ihrer königlichen Mutter …

Mit der ZAUBERFLÖTE gab Tomo Sugao, der bei bedeuten den Festivals und an Opernhäusern in Europa, Asien und den Vereinigten Staaten inszeniert, einst sein Regiedebüt. Nach seiner vielschichtigen Deutung der großen polnischen Nationaloper KRÓL ROGER im Mai 2022 kehrt er schon in der Spielzeit 22.23 ans Cottbuser Staatstheater zurück und erfindet Mozarts aberwitziges Singspiel zum dritten Mal in seiner Karriere neu. Zwischen den mystisch anmutenden personellen Parallelen entspinnt er ein Spiel zwischen verschiedenen Zeitebenen und Entwicklungsstadien des Lebens.
