Don Pasquale, over seventy, wealthy and of old nobility, wants to be sure that his inheritance falls into good hands. He would also love to feel really youthful with a young woman by his side! Clumsily, however, he puts his fate in the hands of a questionable "doctor" - and thus becomes the perfect victim of a tricky intrigue with far-reaching consequences ...

The popular Buffooper, which Donizetti wrote shortly before the end of his life, is also considered a swan song for the genre: so profound are musical language and humor and so painfully the composer was aware that his era was drawing to a close. As a result, Don Pasquale does not lack a certain tragedy in the midst of the hustle and bustle of the stage: THE parade role for the two much sought-after bassists Donato Di Stefano and João Fernandes, who introduce themselves as new members of the Oldenburg State Theater.
