An ensemble that has enjoyed success over a wide repertoire since its foundation in 1998 shares its name, as The Arts Desk has explained, ‘with the plainest of ancient Greek columns, but the colourful approach relates more closely to the elaborate Corinthian style: thoughtful intuitiveness added considerable yet entirely appropriate colour’. Schubert’s final string quartet dates from 1826, a year of illness and uncertainty in the composer’s short life.
