Handel’s famous Messiah needs no introduction. When the Messiah was first performed to the public in 1742, it caused a sensation. The Musick Hall in Dublin was so packed that the men attended ‘without swords’ and the ladies were asked to wear skirts ‘without hoops’ in order to make room for more listeners. More than 250 years later, it still occupies a significant place in the repertoire. Its ability to delight and captivate is virtually unparalleled. The powerful choirs and excellent solos provide a score that is as fresh as it is inspiring. Conducted by John Butt, the unparalleled Dunedin Consort presents the Messiah as it would have been performed in Handel’s time.

Händels beroemde Messiah hoeven we niet meer voor te stellen. Toen de Messiah in 1742 voor het eerst aan het publiek werd getoond, veroorzaakte dat een sensatie. De Musick Hall in Dublin zat zo vol dat de mannen 'zonder zwaarden' aanwezig waren en de dames werd gevraagd rokken 'zonder hoepels' te dragen om ruimte te maken voor meer luisteraars. Meer dan 250 jaar later neemt het nog steeds een opmerkelijke plaats in op het repertoire. Het vermogen om te verrukken en te boeien is vrijwel ongeëvenaard. De krachtige koren en voortreffelijke solo's zorgen voor een partituur die even fris als inspirerend is. Le Musick Hall de Dublin était bondé ; les hommes avaient dû se dépouiller de leur épée et les femmes avaient été invitées à porter des jupes sans crinoline pour pouvoir admettre un plus grand nombre d'auditeurs. Plus de 250 ans plus tard, la composition occupe toujours une place de choix dans le répertoire. Sa capacité à enchanter et à passionner est quasiment inégalée. Les passages choraux puissants et les superbes solos composent une partition inspirante qui reste d'une grande fraîcheur. Sous la direction de John Butt, l'incomparable Dunedin Consort présente le Messie tel qu'il aurait été interprété à l'époque de Haendel.
