Vreugde en zachtheid worden in muziek gevat in de Achtste symfonie van Antonín Dvořák. Dit meesterwerk haalt alle verbeeldingskracht uit muziek naar boven. Vanuit het zonnige, Boheemse platteland word je meegevoerd naar een elegant bal, waar dansers draaien, de violen zingen en de pauken slaan. Het orkest zet in op flair en humor, alsof het een komedie speelt over de vreugde van het leven.

Onze voormalige artist in residence (2018-2019), stercellist Kian Soltani, roept nog meer verbeelding op met zijn uitvoering van Dmitri Kabalevski's virtuoze Tweede celloconcert. Een bijzonder werk met een geheel eigen klankwereld, vanuit de Sovjet-Unie in neoklassieke stijl. Kabalevski maakt van de cello een held die allerlei uitdagingen aangaat, terwijl het orkest hem ondersteunt of juist tegenspreekt. Je voelt de adrenaline, de strijdlust en de opwinding van het avontuur. Dvořáks Othello-ouverture sluit hier perfect op aan. Terugkerend dirigent Valentina Peleggi ontfermt zich over de invloeden uit de volksmuziek, maar brengt haar eigen typerende drive en expressie mee naar Den Haag.

Joy and tenderness find musical expression in Antonín Dvořák's  Symphony No. 8. This masterpiece unleashes the full imaginative power of music. You will be swept away from the sunny Bohemian countryside to an elegant ball with twirling dancers, singing violins and booming timpani. The orchestra performs with panache and humour, as if playing a comedy about the joys of life.

Our former artist in residence (2018-2019), star cellist Kian Soltani, will further stir the imagination with his rendition of Dmitri Kabalevsky's virtuosic Cello Concerto No. 2. It's a remarkable work from the Soviet Union with a unique sound, in the neoclassical style. Kabalevsky elevates the cello to a heroic figure taking on all kinds of challenges, alternately supported and contradicted by the orchestra. You can sense the adrenaline, determination and excitement of adventure. Rounding out the evening will be Dvořák's Othello Overture. Returning conductor Valentina Peleggi will draw on influences from folk music, but bring her own characteristic drive and expression to The Hague.
