Niewątpliwie wielką pomyłkę stanowi postrzeganie średniowiecza jako „wieków ciemnych”. Po negatywnych nastrojach, jakie opadły, gdy zorientowano się, że rok tysięczny nie wyznacza daty końca świata, przyszedł czas na niezwykły rozkwit aktywności twórczej – nie ominął on również kompozytorów.

 

Powszechny stereotyp towarzyszący wiekom średnim z pewnością nie przystaje do bogatego dorobku artystycznego Antonia da Teramo. Ten znakomity twórca żyjący u schyłku epoki przetarł szlak, którym podążyli później pierwsi kompozytorzy renesansu. Niezwykle atrakcyjna w odbiorze twórczość Antonia da Teramo pełna jest kompozytorskiego kunsztu, a zawarte w niej skomplikowane rytmy i harmonia są wyzwaniem dla niejednego instrumentalisty. Część pisanych przez kompozytora utworów to wręcz enigma dla wykonawców – artysta wymaga od nich nie tylko wykonania swojego dzieła, ale również rozwiązania zagadek wplecionych między nuty, często zawierających wątki biograficzne. Być może to właśnie błyskotliwe pomysły Teramo skłoniły żyjących w szesnastym stuleciu przedstawicieli szkoły franko-flamandzkiej do umieszczania w swych utworach łamigłówek, zwanych później „sztuczkami niderlandzkimi”. Powstałe w „mrokach średniowiecza” dzieła Zachary dodatkowo zaskakują subtelnością, różnorodnością barw, a czasem poczuciem humoru. Fortuna niewątpliwie obdarzyła Antonia da Teramo ogromnym talentem, pozwalając mu tworzyć wybitne dzieła zarówno świeckie, jak i religijne. Undoubtedly, it is a great mistake to see the Middle Ages as the "Dark Ages". After the negative moods that subsided when it was realized that the year 1000 does not mark the date of the end of the world, the time has come for an extraordinary flourishing of creative activity - it did not pass by composers either.

 

The common stereotype of the Middle Ages certainly does not match the rich artistic output of Antonio da Teramo. This outstanding artist, who lived at the end of the era, paved the way for the first composers of the Renaissance to follow. The works of Antonio da Teramo, extremely attractive in reception, are full of compositional craftsmanship, and the complex rhythms and harmony contained in it are a challenge for many instrumentalists. Some of the works written by the composer are even enigmas for the performers - the artist requires them not only to perform his work, but also to solve puzzles intertwined between the notes, often containing biographical threads. Perhaps it was Teramo's brilliant ideas that prompted the representatives of the Franco-Flemish school, living in the sixteenth century, to include puzzles in their works, later known as "Dutch tricks". Created in the "dark ages", Zachary's works additionally surprise with their subtlety, variety of colors, and sometimes a sense of humor. Fortune undoubtedly endowed Antonio da Teramo with great talent, allowing him to create outstanding works, both secular and religious.
