Music, says Wolfgang Rihm, is the image of our existence, its beginning, its duration, its end. That is why it is no less than a human expression of being itself. The composer formulated his attitude in a detailed portrait that the Bavarian Radio recently dedicated to him. Exactly this existential meaning also speaks from the works of the composer, who celebrates his 70th birthday in March 2022. On the occasion of the milestone birthday, the Ensemble Modern dedicates a small homage to its close companion.
