Opera w trzech aktach, w języku czeskim.

„Eva” to najsłynniejsza opera romantycznego czeskiego kompozytora Josefa Bohuslava Foerstera. Powstała na podstawie libretta stworzonego wg sztuki Gabrieli Preissovej Kochanka gospodarza. Premiera w 1899 roku w Pradze wywołała poruszenie - naturalistyczny dramat z życia mieszkańców Morawskiej Słowacji reprezentuje życie i tabu obyczajowe małej społeczności wiejskiej . Jednocześnie Foerster nie szukał folkloru muzycznego, co było typowe dla wielu dzieł późnego XIX i początku XX wieku.

Eva jest biedną szwaczką, którą kocha z wzajemnością Manek, syn bogatych gospodarzy. Eva chce z nim zerwać, zarzucając mu nadmierną uległość wobec despotycznej matki, Mešjanovki. Ta stawia synowi warunek: ma poślubić bogatą Maryšę, albo zostanie wydziedziczony. Inwalida Samko zyskuje nadzieję na zdobycie Evy. Poślubia ją, jednak wkrótce ich dziecko umiera- z winy ojca. Serce Evy odwraca się od męża; jej myśli wracają do Manka…

"Eva" is the most famous opera by the Czech romantic composer Josef Bohuslav Foerster. It was based on a libretto based on the play by Gabriela Preissova , the host's Lover . The premiere in Prague in 1899 caused a stir - the naturalistic drama in the lives of the inhabitants of Moravian Slovakia represents the life and moral taboos of a small rural community. At the same time, Foerster did not seek musical folklore, which was typical of many works of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Eva is a poor seamstress whom Manek, the son of wealthy farmers, loves with reciprocity. Eva wants to break up with him, accusing him of excessive submission to her despotic mother, Mešjanovka. She places a condition on her son: he is to marry rich Maryša or he will be disinherited. Samko the invalid gains hope of winning Eva. He marries her, but soon their child dies at his father's fault. Eva's heart turns away from her husband; her thoughts return to Mank ...
