Farnace (RV 711) is a musical drama in three acts by the composer Antonio Vivaldi on a libretto by Antonio Maria Lucchini . The opera was staged for the first time at the Teatro Sant'Angelo in Venice, on 10 February 1727 and was then repeatedly resumed and profoundly revised in the following years, before falling into oblivion like the rest of Vivaldi's production.
The Farnace subject was the subject of considerable interest throughout the eighteenth century. A first version, on a libretto by Lorenzo Morari, had been composed by Antonio Caldara, for the Teatro Sant'Angelo in Venice in 1703, while the text then set to music by Vivaldi, was initially sung by Leonardo Vinci in 1724
