The heroic-romantic opera "Fierrabras" from 1823 is the last of Franz Schubert's fifteen stage works. This rarely performed work was performed for the first time at the Salzburg Festival, in a production by star director Peter Stein. The plot is based on an old French heroic epic from the twelfth century and depicts the military conflict between Christians and Moors at the time of Charlemagne. Emma, ​​the daughter of the Christian Emperor, becomes engaged to the knight Eginhard, who is not her social equal, against her father's wishes. She has one admirer, Fierrabras, the hero of the same name and son of the Prince of the Moors. However, it comes to a happy ending.
