Find this CD on our e-shop: https://tickets.chateauversailles-spe...   - CD N °: CVS027 - JEAN-BAPTISTE LULLY (1632-1687) MOLIÈRE (1622-1673) It was on July 18, 1668 that Molière successfully performed George Dandin ou le mari confondu, a comedy mixed with a sung pastoral, for "The Great Royal Entertainment of Versailles" offered by Louis XIV to his Court, intended to celebrate the peace of Aix-la-Chapelle. This funny story of a rich peasant who buys a young noblewoman, is set with interludes on a splendid music by Lully. The same year sees the promising meeting between Lully and Quinault: they sign together for the King La Grotte de Versailles, where Louis is glorified, and dances in person a role of nymph. These two works symbolic of the creative vigor of the beginnings of Versailles, and of the artistic appetite of a thirty-year-old Sovereign, come back to life thanks to Gaétan Jarry and Marguerite Louise, with an incomparable flavor: tambourines, flutes and musettes are part of the celebration and the trumpets proclaim the glory of Louis. Comedy in music in three acts created at Versailles for the Grand Royal Entertainment held by Louis XIV in 1668.

It was on July 18, 1668 that Molière and the King's Troupe successfully gave George Dandin ou le mari confondu , a comedy mixed with a pastoral sung for "the Great Royal Entertainment of Versailles" offered by Louis XIV to his court, for celebrate the peace of Aix-la-Chapelle concluded with Spain.

This creaking story of a rich and odious peasant who buys a noble girl, is enshrined with elegant interludes where shepherds exchange gallant remarks to a splendid music by Lully. Molière tells us here with his devastating humor that marriage is a market in which love has no part - since Dandin by marrying Angélique de Sotenville exchanged his fortune for a title - and yet the groom persists in to claim the love and loyalty of his wife.

Even if the play remains immoral since evil triumphs, it says above all that we can buy everything except love… this is where it remains timeless. To put this painful, burlesque and obsessive fable in abyss, Michel Fau has chosen to assume a baroque and nightmarish aesthetic… with the complicity of Gaétan Jarry and the musicians of his Ensemble Marguerite Louise.
