In the bedroom of a rich Florentine, Buozo Donati, his relatives gathered to mourn his death. The body of the deceased is still on the bed. Despite the great grief, the relatives are very interested in where the will is. Unable to bear it, they scatter around the house in search. Rinucho finds him. When they open it, everyone is amazed: old Buozo left his property to the church. Great sorrow turns into scorn. Since no one has any idea what to do, Rinucho remembers to call Gianni Skiki, known for his insight and cunning. ( Rinucho's Aria )
The relatives are not thrilled, because they know that Rinucho loves Skiki's daughter Laureta. Laureta and Skiki arrive. Zita tells Skiki not to give her nephew to a girl without a dowry. Laureta begs her father to help them. ( Lauretina Aria )
Skiki realized that since Buozo had just died, and the news of his death had not yet been heard, the will should be falsified. new will. In the meantime, Dr. Spineloco came to visit the patient, and to the delight of all present, he did not recognize Skiki. While preparations are being made, each relative whispers to Skiki to leave him the main part of the inheritance (house, mule and mills), and that part will belong to him. Skiki warns them that according to the law, forging a will is punishable by cutting off the hand and persecution. ( Skiki's Aria )
A notary and two witnesses arrive, neighbors Gucho and Pinelino, before whom Skiki dictates a will. Everyone gets something, and leaves the main part of the inheritance to themselves. As the notary and witnesses left, the relatives ran around the house in anger in order to be able to take away something valuable. Skiki throws them out, and then addresses the audience. Laureta and Rinucho happily greet the sunlit Florence.
