William Shakespeare's tragedy Hamlet as an intimate look at the inner conflicts of his prominent main characters Hamlet and Ophélie in a poetic and grandiose representative of French opera at the end of the 19th century.

Just two weeks after the king's death, fanfares announce the widow Gertrude's marriage to his brother Claudius. Hamlet, the king's son, refuses to attend the celebrations - he is too troubled by the loss, the new marriage comes too soon. Ophélie is disturbed by her lover's sometimes indifferent, sometimes dismissive behavior. Is he going insane? doesn't he love her anymore? In fact, the ghost of his late father tells Hamlet: "The new king, his brother Claudius, is the murderer." Enraged by thoughts of revenge, Hamlet defies the court power structure.

Ambroise Thomas' lyrical drama Hamletexplores the soul worlds of the characters, with a poetic and complex musical language that culminates in the madness aria Ophélies. Director Nadja Loschky stages this opera, which offers everything that French opera has to offer at the end of the 19th century, from gruesome encounters in the cemetery to cheerful dances to intimate and musically graceful scenes, with great musical sensitivity as a sensitive social study.

William Shakespeares Tragödie Hamlet als intimer Blick in die inneren Zerrissenheiten seiner prominenten Hauptfiguren Hamlet und Ophélie in einer ebenso poetischen wie grandiosen Repräsentantin der französischen Oper Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts.

Nur zwei Wochen nachdem der König gestorben ist, verkünden Fanfaren die Hochzeit der Witwe Gertrude mit seinem Bruder Claudius. Hamlet, Sohn des Königs, weigert sich, den Feierlichkeiten beizuwohnen – zu sehr plagt ihn der Verlust, zu früh kommt die neue Heirat. Ophélie verstört das mal gleichgültige, mal abweisende Verhalten ihres Geliebten. Verfällt er dem Wahnsinn? Liebt er sie nicht mehr? Tatsächlich verrät der Geist seines verstorbenen Vaters Hamlet: »Der neue König, sein Bruder Claudius, ist der Mörder.« Von Rachegedanken in Rage versetzt, widersetzt sich Hamlet dem höfischen Machtgefüge.

Ambroise Thomas’ Drame lyrique Hamlet erkundet die Seelenwelten der Figuren, mit einer poetischen und komplexen Musiksprache, die in der Wahnsinnsarie Ophélies, kulminiert. Regisseurin Nadja Loschky inszeniert diese Oper, die von schaurigen Friedhofs-begegnungen über vergnügte Tänze hin zu intimen und musikalisch anmutigen Szenen alles aufbietet, was die französische Oper Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts zu bieten hat, mit großer musikalischer Sensibilität als fein-fühlige Gesellschaftsstudie.
