In zijn derde en laatste programma als artist-in-residence speelt Marc Bouchkov het imposante en lyrische Vioolconcert van Brahms. De Finse Hannu Lintu debuteert bij het orkest en neemt daarvoor Sjostkovitsj’ huiveringwekkende Symfonie nr. 5 mee.

Het Vioolconcert van Johannes Brahms is met het lyrische eerste deel, het ontroerende duet tussen viool en hobo in hetAdag io en het opzwepende Hongaarse slotdeel een van de meest geliefde vioolconcerten ter wereld. Marc Bouchkov laat met het monumentale meesterwerk in zijn derde en laatste programma als artist-in-residence horen dat hij een van de spannendste vertolkers is van het grote romantische vioolrepertoire.

Hannu Lintu dirigeert Symfonie nr. 5 van Sjostakovitsj
Voor zijn debuut bij het orkest zet de Finse dirigent Hannu Lintu Symfonie nr. 5 van Sjostakovitsj op de lessenaars. Die symfonie was Sjostakovitsj’ rehabilitatie na forse kritieken van Stalin en tegelijkertijd een aanklacht tegen datzelfde regime. Stalin hoorde tevreden hoe Sjostakovitsj een lofzang over de Sovjetheld had gecomponeerd, terwijl de onderdrukte luisteraars in de zaal diep geëmotioneerd waren door de diepe pijn en scherpe ironie die zij hoorden.

The Violin Concerto by Johannes Brahms, with its lyrical first movement, the moving duet between violin and oboe in the Adag io and the rousing Hungarian final movement, is one of the most popular violin concertos in the world. With this monumental masterpiece in his third and final program as artist-in-residence, Marc Bouchkov shows that he is one of the most exciting interpreters of the great romantic violin repertoire.

Hannu Lintu conducts Symphony No. 5 by Shostakovich
For his debut with the orchestra, the Finnish conductor Hannu Lintu puts Shostakovich's Symphony No. 5 on the music stands. That symphony was Shostakovich's rehabilitation after strong criticism from Stalin and at the same time an indictment of that same regime. Stalin was pleased to hear Shostakovich compose a hymn to the Soviet hero, while the suppressed listeners in the hall were deeply moved by the deep pain and sharp irony they heard.
