Even in fairy tales, the world sometimes looks like it is going to the dogs: In the Besenbinder house, where the siblings Hansel and Gretel grow up, there is seldom more to bite than dry bread. And outside, too, you can only find something to eat quite deep in the dark forest, because the immediate home environment does not throw off anything. But what else do you want to do with such a broken world? Fortunately, there is a certain crispy witch who, as a charity queen, solves the supply problem with director Axel Ranisch and distributes delicious colorful drops. The catch: In this “Charlie and the chocolate factory gone wrong” fantasy, Hansel and Gretel discover that the candy is made from rather unusual ingredients. When the crispy witch is finally in the oven herself, in which Hansel was supposed to be roasting, no more children will disappear - but the food shortage remains. But we wouldn't be in a fairy tale if hope didn't grow from somewhere in the end. Engelbert Humperdinck and his sister Adelheid Wette originally only wanted to perform a little fairy tale game for Christmas, but the escalation logic of the project, which then set in with great enthusiasm, brought us one of the most popular large-format family pieces in music theater history. The ideal cast therefore: Axel Ranisch, who was part of the team, hacked with the conductor Alevtina Ioffe The love for three oranges landed a real hit with the public for the Stuttgart State Opera in 2018, already from the daring double evening Iolanta / Mavra at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich. He takes Humperdinck's fairy tale opera again with a lot of love for storytelling and crude humor and as if incidentally asks the question of what kind of transformations the world has to go through before we know what the good life could look like.
