Иэн Бостридж – один из лидеров современного вокального исполнительства. Свою профессиональную карьеру он начал лишь в 29 лет, предварительно изучив историю и философию в St John's College (Оксфорд) и… написав диссертацию о колдовстве! В чем секрет его притягательной силы? Как ему удалось завоевать признание по всему миру наряду со звездами нашего времени? Подобно драматическому актеру, перевоплощающемуся на сцене в своего героя, он проживает каждую ноту произведения, как актер – слово. Бережно, трепетно относясь к замыслу композитора, он доносит до слушателя доселе неизведанные пласты музыкального содержания. Не сила голоса или красота бельканто, а уникальное интеллектуальное мудрое прочтение текста притягивает миллионы его поклонников.

Бостридж прославился как один из лучших интерпретаторов сложнейшей музыки Шуберта, его камерных вокальных циклов – энциклопедии тончайших душевных переживаний. Написал о нем книгу. Поет он и в операх: Монтеверди и Генделя, Моцарта, Вагнера, Сметаны, Бриттена, Стравинского. Отдельная глава его творчества – это современная музыка. В репертуаре музыканта – сочинения Хенце, Наймана, а один из самых успешных современных английских композиторов Томас Адес специально для Бостриджа написал партию Калибана в своей опере «Буря». Его разностороннее дарование поражает. Так, основные события сезона 2018/19 включают европейский концертный тур с джазовым пианистом Брэдом Мелдау (Brad Mehldau), европейский концертный тур с барочным Камерным оркестром Europa Galante и выступления в Дрезденской опере… У певца колоссальная дискография, этот выдающийся музыкант – обладатель 15 Grammy.

Иэн Бостридж неоднократно был в России: на фестивале «Владимир Спиваков приглашает...» в 2007 году, на XXX Международном фестивале «Декабрьские вечера Святослава Рихтера», на XV Международном зимнем фестивале «Площадь Искусств» в Санкт-Петербурге. В прошлом сезоне его можно было услышать в зале «Зарядье»: он выступал с Камерным оркестром Europa Galante.

На этот раз его творческий партнер – Ларс Фогт, один из ведущих музыкантов своего поколения. Как солист он сотрудничает с крупнейшими оркестрами, в последнее время выступает и как дирижер, широко известен как камерный музыкант. Ларс Фогт основал свой собственный камерный фестиваль в деревне Хаймбах близ Кельна. Концерты, известные как Spannungen, проходят на гидроэлектростанции в стиле модерн.

Ian Bostridge is one of the leaders of contemporary vocal performance. It was only in the age of 29 that he began his career of professional singer, and by that time he had already graduated from Oxford's St. John's College, and had written a thesis on… magic! Now he is one of the international stars of our times. What’s the secret? The thing is that on stage Ian Bostridge does not merely sing, he puts all of himself into every note he sings. And he delivers each and every note just as a good actor pronounces every word. It’s not strength of voice or beauty of belcanto that attract millions of people, it’s all about his wise and unique reading of a text.

Besides, Bostridge is famous for his rendition of Schubert music, his complicated vocal cycles in particular. Those cycles are a kind of encyclopedia of subtlest experiences. A book about Schubert was written by Bostridge. Not only chamber music: Ian also is opera singer, he takes part in Monteverdi, Hendel, Mozart, Wagner, Smetana, Britten, Stravinsky operas. 

Contemporary music occupies a special place in Ian’s oeuvre. Henze and Nyman’s music is part of his repertoire, while Thomas Adès, one of the most successful British composers today, wrote Caliban’s part in his “Tempest” especially for Bostridge. Ian’s versatility is simply striking. For instance, in 2018/19 he’s touring Europe with either jazz pianist Brad Mehldau or baroque orchestra Europa Galante, and sings in Dresden Opera. Ian Bostridge has recorded numerous albums, and is a 15-times Grammy winner. 

Ian Bostridge performed in Russia several times (including the last year’s concert with Europa Galante). Lars Vogt is his partner on stage this time. Vogt is one of the leading musicians of his generation. As soloist, he plays with greatest orchestras, but recently he has been plying chamber music, too, and conducting. He founded the festival 'Spannungen' in Heimbach (Eifel) in 1998.
